Program Overview

Welcome to the Music Theatre Performance program page at St. Clair College. Here, you will discover how this world-class program can prepare you for an exciting career in the performing arts. Did we mention that we have one of the best overall facilities in Ontario!!

This immersive, performance-based program gives students the tools necessary for a career in contemporary music theatre blended with a range of industry specific studies resulting in a well-rounded performing arts education. Our experienced faculty and industry professionals provide a supportive and challenging learning environment, which enables you to develop your skills and talents to their fullest potential. Within the program there will also be workshops from industry professionals to broaden the spectrum of classes offered to ensure all areas of the industry are covered. Every semester, all students enrolled in the program will come together to create either an original show or a full-scale musical in our beautiful 1100 seat theatre.

Our goal is to train and mentor music theatre-based performers, critical thinkers, creators, directors, choreographers, administrators, educators and scholars. You’ll graduate prepared to contribute to the field of entertainment in a wide variety of professional careers. Graduates of the program have found themselves with careers in festivals, on Broadway tours, cruise ships, around the world in theme parks, commercials, television and film, social media content and so much more.

As a student in our Music Theatre Performance program, you will receive intensive training in all aspects of musical theatre performance, including vocal technique, acting for the stage, and dance.

You will learn to interpret scripts and songs, to develop characters, and to work collaboratively with other performers and creative teams.

  • Our productions are presented in our 1200-seat Chrysler Theatre in Windsor in addition to a smaller intimate studio setting.

Your Amazing Classrooms!

Did we say classrooms? Sort of but not really! Check out where you will spend your time!!!

Our program emphasizes performance opportunities, both on and off campus. You will have the opportunity to perform in our state-of-the-art theatres and in community productions, which will enable you to gain valuable experience and develop your professional network.

Our dance and acting studios are equipped with state-of-the-art sprung dance floors for injury prevention, LED lighting and the technology to zoom in teachers and professionals from all over the world to inspire you and help you achieve your dreams.

Our piano lab features over 20 individual keyboards so every student in the class has the opportunity to work hands on with the instrument immediately.

Our individual practice rooms are designed for a more private practice experience. These rooms may be booked out at any time by our students to work on either class material or just to have some time to yourself without your roommates listening to you.

NEW!! We have a brand-new self-tape space! The world of auditions has changed and the knowledge and ability to make a great self-tape to submit is crucial in the success of your future auditions. Our self-tape room is equipped with sound proofing, a backdrop, proper professional lighting and equipment to position your recording devises in just the right spot. Our new curriculum features classes in making the perfect self-tape where you will learn all about editing and what the casting directors are looking for. This space will ensure that you have ample tapes prepared to submit for auditions as soon as you graduate so you can hit the ground running.

Blending the classical with the contemporary, St. Clair’s Music Theatre Program concentrates on practical strategies for stretching the imagination and developing strong performance skills, without neglecting the business of “the business.”

Our Music Theatre Program’s acting courses include Theatre History and Stagecraft, Text Analysis & interpretation, Character Development, Improvisation & Physical Comedy. The music component offers the History of Music Theatre, Musical Theory, Ear Training and Sight-singing, Vocal Technique & Interpretation. Dance courses include Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Contemporary. Master Classes are offered by guest artists from the world of entertainment.

Career Opportunities

Graduates will find work as performers in professional theatres, on cruise ships, in dinner theatres, in theme parks, summer festivals and in commercial musical theatre productions as well as in film. Opportunities also exist in commercial voiceovers and studio recording.
